Dealing with life's end

Lien Foundation commissioned a comparative study on the quality of death index which is on how well differenct countires manage the care of dying elderly people. Singapore ranked 18th among the 40 countries surveyed by the Economist Intelligence Unit or EIU. Singapore is a First World society is falling short especially since the basic end-of-life the country come in at No. 30.

Singapore should do more public education and awareness on palliative. Death is a taboo in our mindset. Singaporeans are conditioned to equate the value of a person with economic usefulness (or how much money they have or can earn) must learn to value people for who they are. Sick, old people should be better honoured and not regarded as imposing on time and resources of their relatives. The young today will need to realise they will grow old and be in need of care and emotional which may be sooner than they can imagine.
